BASIC FUNCTION:

The Learning & Development Specialist is responsible for coordinating the Learning and Development process and delivering effective training programs at the assigned steel mill location. This role supports the identification of local training needs, develops and delivers training content, manages training items and curricula in the Learning Management System (LMS), and coordinates the execution of training sessions. The position also assists with various Human Resources (HR) initiatives and supports the development of broader HR programs as required. This is a temporary assignment lasting between 6 to 12 months.

NATURE & SCOPE:

Reporting directly to the Human Resources Manager, the Learning & Development Specialist collaborates closely with the Corporate Organizational Development Team. The role is primarily responsible for:

  • Assessing current training needs at the local level

  • Supporting the creation and delivery of location-specific training content

  • Managing local training items and curricula within the LMS

  • Coordinating and continuously improving the onboarding process

  • Serving as the local point of contact for LMS administration and training execution

The incumbent will also coach and mentor local leaders in effective training practices, support frontline supervisors in delivering operational and compliance training, and foster a culture of continuous learning and self-development.

Additionally, this position coordinates training initiatives aligned with corporate and divisional programs, evaluates training effectiveness, and oversees orientation processes for all new or transferred employees. While the primary focus is Learning & Development, the role also involves supporting broader HR functions as needed.

JOB FUNCTION:

  1. Coordinate the Learning and Development process for the assigned location
  2. Assess local training needs, support the development of training content and facilitate training sessions when needed.
  3. Responsible for managing the Learning Management System for all local items and curricula, as well as the integration with the Document Control System.
  4. Implement all corporate and division training programs.
  5. Responsible for location training facilities, materials, equipment, and training records, and training procedures.
  6. Responsible for record-keeping, monitoring and measuring the effectiveness of training programs conducted at the location.
  7. Coordinate the onboarding program of all new hires and/or transferred employees.
  8. Assist with other Human Resources processes when needed.

QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in Human Resources or Organizational Development, preferably with experience and knowledge in learning and development.
  • Ability to design and develop training and development programs.
  • Knowledgeable of tools and trends in learning and development.
  • Training facilitation skills.
  • Computer skills including Office 365
  • Knowledge and experience with Learning Management Systems, preferably Success Factors.
  • Be organized and have good time management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to influence others and build relationships.
  • Ability to be responsive and focus on assisting and supporting internal customers
