Overview

• Set up and operate lathes, milling machines, shapers, planers, boring mills, and other machine tools.
• Machine new and used iron, steel, alloys, and other metal materials to specified dimensions, contours, tolerances, and finishes.
• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, sketches, and work orders.
• Perform complex layout work and calculate dimensions, tapers, indices, and other machining data.
• Select, grind, and install cutting tools based on material properties and machining requirements.
• Set feeds, speeds, stops, and machine adjustments for efficient and accurate machining.
• Use precision measuring tools including calipers, gauges, levels, protractors, templates, and rules.
• Make and repair tools, fixtures, gauges, templates, dies, machine parts, and instrument components.
• Dismantle, assemble, fit, align, and adjust machinery and equipment to close tolerances.
• Fabricate or procure jigs, fixtures, and machine attachments as needed.
• Perform plant maintenance and construction-related fitting and assembly work.
• Operate cranes and mobile equipment as required.
• Maintain required reports and documentation.
• Work independently or provide directions to other employees as needed.

Qualifications & Skills:

• Strong mechanical and machine skills.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical instructions.
• Experience setting up and operating multiple types of machine tools.
• Ability to perform precision measurements and work to close tolerances.
• Knowledge of cutting tools, feeds, speeds, materials, and machining processes.
• Ability to perform mathematical calculations related to machining, including dimensions and tapers.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Ability to safely handle machinery, materials, and shop equipment.
